GLPS Ezhikkara is a model government-run lower primary school that is more than a centrury old. This school has produced many global leaders who have gone on to make significant contributions to the world. The school itself has a rich heritage, and is known to support innovation. In 1982, the school made history by becoming one of the first election booths to deploy Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) as part of the North Parur Assembly elections, when EVMs where tried for the first time in the country!
Most recently, the school has set up a state-of-the-art innovation lab for children (the ‘Mahatma Gandhi Tinkering/Maker Lab’) under the leadership of one of its ex-students D. Jayakrishnan, the teachers of the school, ex-students and many local residents.
Jayakrishnan, describing this initiative, mentions:
“One of the first of its kind initiative at the primary level in the country, this lab is being built in the loving memory of my mother, late A.Radha who was a student here in the 1940s! “
This lab will enable students to learn by making with hand, perform activities on working models, build things from blocks/waste material and tinkeri with every day objects around us. This will help improve their creative confidence and ability to innovate/identify and solve problems.
The school is very progressive, and the principal welcomes anyone who wishes to participate/ contribute in the development of the school.
